APOCALYPSE
New Orleans "to be wiped off map"

Awwwwh shit.

I'll post a scan of the article up later...but to briefly touch on it now....heres another quote-

Officials warned Hurricane Ivan could kill up to 50,000 today-and wipe New Orleans off the map.

Computer models show a hurricane packing winds of just 120mph hitting west of the city would push a storm surge over its protection network-and flood the entire basin. New Orleans would sink under 20ft of water, much of it polluted with chemicals and sewage.

Historic New Orleans-the biggest US city built below sea level-had already made ready 10,000 body bags.
The city's emergancy manager Walter Maestri warned; "We might need a lot more. This could be The One. Your talking about the potential loss of a major metropolitan area."

I am obviously distressed concerning the predicted high deathcount :( yet I believe the repurcussions to our wee shindig should be addressed in light of this horrible possibility also.

~feels terrible that the matters of a holiday appear to be taking precidence~ they are not....but there is little I can do about Ivan, and though Ivan effects me emotionally if this tragedy where to happen, I feel the repercussions for our party should be addressed.

:(

dont be psilly, Apoc, tragedy cannot befall New Orleans, as it is currently under the protection of a little fairy magick. ;)

For ex: the projected demise of NO that I looked into was all based on the possibility of a level 5 hurricaine making a direct hit on NO. At this point, I believe it is not as likely as it first looked to make a direct hit, and anyway, it's been downgraded from level 5 to level 2. No worries, my friend, no worries. ;)

Not to mention it directly hit alabama and not NO. Besides I think that 10k number is way over estimated. A lot of people evacuated and everyone else was told to head for sky skrapers in case of emergency. The locals know what to do.

Hopefully there wont be too much damage though, enough hurrican mayhem has happened already in the south :(

hahahahahahaha oh *clutches tummy* the Sun is not a valid source for anything. Believe me I used to work for them, and indeed prefer to call that institute its more apt name of "The House of Lies" rather than "The Sun and Times newspapers".
