Any future for the quill in RSS feeds? Its become the latest cool thing on the web since sliced bread and well, I was wondering if this possible with the quill. You could RSS the latest thread in a specific forum. Discussion, Reflections ...whatever floats your boat.

Hmm, very maybe. I doubt RSS has anything to offer that could benefit this community. Although I haven't given it much thought. If your thoughts have done more travelling then mine, then perhaps share them?

And if you don't mind, the latest cool things all seem to go towards short, quick and lacking soul. But perhaps I'm such a shallow person that I want depth in every little thing on the planet...

Think a living bookmark that when you mouse over it, connects to the RSS feed and then lists as a subfolder a whole bunch of current bookmarks. So, if you have a RSS with a news site, when you ouse over the RSS it feeds you all the latest headlines and you just click the link to the article of choice and you go directly to it.

That wikipedia definition reads like VCR instructions. If I didnt know what a RSS feed was I would gouge my eyes out right about now. :p

Yea so my 'vision' of an RSS feed is a bit vague. It was something that almost came into focus when I wrote the original post. I sorta threw it out there and hoped you would do all the work, Mike :halo: . But if you want more info, well I was thinking maybe that any threads that have been created or updated in last 12 hours could be put into the RSS. 12 hours seems reasonable, 24 hrs is too many and 6 might be too short. Maybe even create a seperate RSS feed for each forum. One RSS for each subsection: Our Reality, Our Escape, and our Creation. This kinda lets you take a sneak peak at what is up at the quill without loading the whole site.

Is that too shallow still? Cause Im all out of ideas. Is this possible?

Well, I think the main problem that I have with something like this is that it allows people an outside-in view, and I want people to actually visit the site and be here in person, not have something feed them headlines so they can make a hit and run post when something pops up. We're not that big and we don't have that many people online. I'm afraid that RSS will turn more people into satellites.

But ok, I'll look into things. In time. There's more to do.

Well fine, shoot me down will you!

Well, what if we RSS the front page articles then? A lot of people miss those because they come directly to the forums. Some people arent even aware of the front page.... phreaks. :p

it really is a faaascinating... concept. Neato, even. :) I do have to agree with Mike, tho, about people actually being here. Still, maybe something to consider when we're older and bigger. and yes, people need to visit the mainpage. It's neat. and just like life... a work in progress. ;)
