View Full Version : [ASN] Assassins Game - Input Needed

Okay, for those of you who weren't in on it the first time around, assassins was a secret chat game. Well, still is i guess, although i thought it was long since dead, someone PM'ed me yesterday to say they had made a kill. Go figure.
Anyway, it was a chat game. Only those involved in the game knew that it was going on, and each person was given a target. If they were in chat and that person entered, then they sent a PM to the person saying, in essence "you're dead." After they killed the person, they received that person's target and moved on. Also, you could only make kills if there were something like 4 or less people in chat. Once you were killed you were out of the game. It was meant to be a fast game so that people who were out didn't have to wait to get back in, but it kind of died after a few people who had said they would be active to play kinda disappeared off the planet, and broke the chain.
I'm interested in bringing it back. However, before i put together something on my own, i'm looking for any input. Ie - do you think you would play, do you think it would still be good to have in chat, or would it be better to adapt to the MB somehow...any suggestions or ideas you have would be welcomed.

I'd play, I think. I'd play at least once to see what I thought of it, anyway.
When would it be over? when you finally killed the person that was out to kill you?

I'm still playing, why else do you think I'm in chat every time I'm on the net? But the little bugger just won't enter. In the three months since I've hit my last target I only saw him in chat once and he was there before me, but he left soon after I entered and didn't return either :grumbles: . Still waiting for my hit, so to say.
It's better in real life :) we played it sometimes at the youthclub and in university.

I'd play...I'd say you need a way of speeding it up. Perhaps giving out more than one target?

yeah, definitely better in real life. That's where i got the inspiration, we played it with silly string in my dorm last year. You could only kill people outside of the dorm. Alas, i was doing so well when we had a fire-drill. Cheap fire-drills making me go outside.
Anyway, to cloric's question..."There can be only one." It's over when only one person remains. Of course, i have yet to see what will happen when it gets down to just two people, but we'll see.
Speeding up would be a good idea. Fast games wouldn't get people discouraged that they were out and done for a long time. Two targets seems like a really good idea, but it could get messy. Anyway, i found the original PM i sent out to people who had expressed interest in playing, so here it is.
This may get long-winded, please bear with me.
Perhaps some of you are familiar with the game. Basically, you are trying to become king of the group by killing everyone else off. When played in real life, this is usually done by squirt gun death, or silly string, but on here, we are going to do it with chat pm death.
Each of you is both an assassin and a target. I have a large list of people i've noticed who spend at least a moderate amount of time in chat. I'm not going to tell you who all is on the list, and i'm not going to tell you how many are on the list.
Each of you will be PM'ed with a certain name. That name is your target. Tell no one. Once you eliminate this person, you must PM me to let me know of your kill, and they must PM you with the name of your next target. Last one standing wins. Killing a target simply involves sending them a private message in chat that says something like "you're dead" or "*blam*" or whatever method of killing you prefer.
Now, a couple rules must be set down to make it more than just a 5 minute chat game.
First, to eliminate someone, you must be present in chat prior to them. Second, if there are more than 4 people in chat, no killings may take place. I don't want to discourage chatting, especially large groups.
Anyway, this is supposed to be simply a little amusing game. It should NOT take any sort of priority over chatting in general. You are all on your honor to not use the tactic of simply not going into chat again. In addition, lurking in chat all day is also frowned upon. I thought about putting in a time limit, but that complicated matters even more, so, we'll see how this goes for now.
One last thing. For an assassin, secrecy is key. Any public mention of this (MB or outloud in chat) blows your cover and constitues suicide. I will PM you to let you know of your death, and PM whoever had you to let them know of their new target. Much of this game depends on the people playing it. One person screwing around will wreck the whole thing. (Read as, telling someone they are dead, when in fact, you don't have them) I hope you are all up to playing.
Well, hopefully you've all stuck through to this point. I'll send you all your targets in a different PM. It should be obvious by now that i like this sort of game type thing (*cough*WTP)...however, if any of you wish to step aside and not be included in it, just PM and i'll take you right off the list. If too many people drop, i'll send out another PM letting everyone know of the game's end.
It may sound stupid to you, but please give it a try. Don't simply give up because you don't think you will remember to do it. It isn't supposed to be the first thought on your mind, just a background game. Hopefully the non-chatters won't even know what's going on.

I say we take out the rule about not killing them if they're in chat first. It would speed the game up about 50 times.

yeah, but then it would encourage people to avoid chat. people would try to just wait until their target was in chat and then go in, make the kill, and leave.

Well, not necessarily. For one, once you're in chat, its hard to leave. Its easy to get sucked into the conversation. Also, I don't think it would make people avoid chat if the game went fast, which it would if this rule were removed. I think as long as people know they will have another opportunity to play within a short amount of time, then they aren't going to be so careful about being in chat.
