Ok, so im sitting there on the sofa, and i pop on the Telly. the news is on. the news says that the NSA is recording/listening to americans phone conversations without search warrents. they have been doing this for four years. Why? How? the patriot act, no lie. gives the government the power to violate our rights, that we are promised in some other laws. (im sorry i didnt do my homework, but its true i swear. not very compelling without specifics, i know but bare with me.) So im sitting on the sofa.... i look at the news again, shake my head and look again..... DWA?!?!?!?! i thought everyone knew thats what we were signing up for..... i was mad as hell when that act passed, yet no one seemed to care. everyone i talked to seemed to think it was agood idea. ~shakes head~ why oh why are they fussing about this now? Didnt you look at this thing when it went through the first time Reps? Could you not have spoken out then? Hopefully bush & his evil law are shattered this time around. i do realize it wont stop them from listening. but i guess thats not my point. i guess im like a diving knife, and have no point. but i do have a question... how can people be upset four years after the damn thing was passed when they were just fine with it when it came out in the first place? i just dont get it.

yeah ok, so there is a thread... i should have known.... but i dont really care about the thing itself, more on the politics surounding it at this moment and why its turned out like this. i want to know why the government didnt raise this stink before this shit was passed and why they act like they werent involved when it was. i just think our govenment can be fucking retarded most of the time, and when there not they are probly on vacation....

well, it's easy. 4 years ago, they were scared shitless that something else would happen, some big plot would come to fruition, that more americans would die and they (the government) would be accused of not doing enough. so they did too much, knowing it was overreacting, but unable to come up with a viable intelligence solution, and said "hey, let's scrap that whole "innocent until proven guilty thing, because that's just a lot of work, and we'll instead assume everyone is guilty and treat them all like criminals and they'll like it because they'll figure it's 'keeping them safe' ". hence the patriot act.

Yes anita, and it was only meant originally to be a temporary solution. Its been four years, it hasnt given us any gain over our normal methods and completely cripples the rights of the average american.

Politicians are complaining now because people are complaining now. Action is based off of votes. Got to love the way the systems is set up. Whast that phrase? 200 million americans....200 million opinions?

This thread isnt exactly about Patriot Act. Jonboy is talking about politics. Why is the Senate minority preaching arguements that were stated four years ago by people that were labeled as non-patriots? Look at the name of the act for crying out loud. It is because average americans are opening their eyes and seeing whats going on. Hopefully they will open their eyes a bit more still before the bush administration is done and actually impeaches dubya.

One can dream.

I've recently started to re-read "The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" and I'm watching history repeat itself... It's the same that Hitler did to take power, created the events, disorder, chaos, rioting, fights with the 'communist' etc.., and first caused the law to be created, and then invoked it to gradually acquire absolute power to totally dictate the fate of the nation. He too believed he was put there by God, and said so many times.

I've often wondered why he did what he did, and how come he had so much success at least for some years? Then, I shake my head, and ponder how could anyone possibly give rational explanations to irrational behavior... Other than social upbring that suggests to us that other people are following more or less some kind of moral code that demands some level of fair dealing with our fellow man... So we simply can't conceive that someone would have the audacity of outright lying, we say, "Nah... who would do that to us?" So we buy the lies because we simply can't fathom that they would lie to us...

But after a season, you know what the tree produces. What more do you need to see than the results to tell you what was intended in the first place? Were the results really unintended or unforseen? Absolutely not. They were intended and planned.
