In my time on any messageboard, I've really only ever had 2 avatars. Oh yes, I've had a few others, but nothing I've really ever kept. I'm not sure why, but its something I take fairly seriously--seems odd, but I'm ok with that. Anyway, 2 avatars...one I'm quite bored with and the other I no longer have access to...so, I'm going to start something new. I'm not sure how long I'll run with it, or how long I'll keep this thread seperate from my normal reflections thread. But, right here and right now, it seems like a good idea.

Anywho, I'm going to use different characters as avatars along with a trait that I respect in them (and probably wish I had ;)). It might not even be an entirely accurate assessment...but it will be how I've accepted it into my world. Well, thats about enough babble, eh?

Stalwart Determination

Roland, the lead character from Stephen King's "Dark Tower", symbolizes to me stalwart determination. No matter what the odds, no matter what needs done, he will press forward towards his ultimate goal.

Righteous Defiance

Drizzt, from the Forgetten Realms universe and authored by RA Salvatore, symbolizes a great many things to me--but for this I've chosen Righteous Defiance. Drizzt will always stand for what is Right in his heart. His principles will not be swayed by family, friend, or foe. Time and time again, he could have strayed from the Right path, times when it would have been easier or less painful, but even in the face of such things he remains true.

(This is a bit of an aside, but Star put up an avatar that deserves to be here as well)
Tolerant Acceptance

Catti-brie, Drizzt's companion, is the human daughter of a dwarf (adopted, of course ;)). Catti-brie is one of the first surface dwellers to see past Drizzt's dark elf heritage to see the person beneath, even tho at the time she was little more than a child. Sweet, caring, and thoughtful, she accepts things as they are but has also adopted the characteristic stubborness of the dwarves showing fierce loyalty to her beliefs and her friends. Even against the same goblins that were responsible for her parents death she shows compassion, trying to parley before using her deadly skill with the bow.

Improvement of Self

Data--not only an important member of the crew of the starship Enterprise, but amazingly a good friend to those who serve with him. Amazing because Data is an emotionless android. But, the one trait that sets him apart is his absolute dedication to improve himself...to become more than he is. Its strange, to me, but there are people out there who believe that there is some 'Truth' in not just excepting their flaws, but in keeping those flaws. They somehow believe that if they work to improve themselves, even when they admit that there is something definately bad, that they will lose themselves. To me, there is no way to be true to oneself than to improve. Now, to be fair, because of my sheer laziness, the idealogies work out to the same effect (no change), but...hmm...well, this is my Truth.
