Buckeye typing as Jen:
My early bird AFC Championship pick is the Brownies over the KC Chiefs! Early bird Super Bowl pick is the Brownies (of course!) over the Panthers.
P.S. Trent Green will retire and be forced to sell insurance after this season. The end. :D
Jen typing as Jen:
Umm, I hold no responsibility for Buckeye's remarks.
P.S. Good idea moving this to its own thread. ;)

My early superbowl pick is Ravens over the Seahawks.
Yes, Amelia, i'm actually rooting for the seahawks this year... mostly cause i have hasselbeck and jackson on my fantasy team. so, go seahawks.
i do think that their week 1 game will be a tight one though, if they even win. (you do realize that when i say it's going to be tight, it's a blow-out, and vice versa.)

Thursday, Sep. 9
Indianapolis at New England. Go Peyton!!!
Sunday, Sep. 12
Arizona at St. Louis
Baltimore at Cleveland
Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets
Detroit at Chicago
Jacksonville at Buffalo
Oakland at Pittsburgh -- I CAN NOT wait to see the showdown of Sapp v. Bettis. I think "The Bus" will have a hard time going through the line. Unfortunatley the Poorly-performing Oakland Offense won't be able to capitalize on their defensive abilities. (BUT I STILL LOVE JERRY RICE)
San Diego at Houston
Seattle at New Orleans
Tampa Bay at Washington -- No Comment. Both good teams, but Tamp doesn't have Lynch or Sapp, and Washington is definately at the end of their rebuilding cycle.
Tennessee at Miami
Atlanta at San Francisco -- I have faith in my 'Niners, despite my reservations about Tim Rattay
Dallas at Minnesota
N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia Go Screamin' Eagles!!!
Kansas City at Denver Despite the fact that I hate the Broncos, they looked really sharp in the Pre-season. I don't think that Priest Holmes or Gonsales ( Chief's TE) can hold the Chiefs together vs. John Lynch's defense
Monday, Sep. 13
Green Bay at Carolina
I hate the Cheese Heads. damn that Lambeau Field and the multiple times that it has crushed the 'Niners playoff hopes. :furious:
sir archely
September 8th, 2004, 16:33
heh, bettis vs. sapp might be mostly a non-issue, with staley being the starter. the bus might get short down carries, or goal line stuff, but i don't think it's going to be much of a "showdown". plus the bus is runnin' out of gas. (though i suppose sapp isn't a spring chicken either.)
and also, i'd say that the 49ers look like one of the weakest teams in football right now.
i am, however, frequently wrong.

Looked sharp? What games are you watching...here's an interesting stat about there starting quarterback...
Ok it's offical, Plummer's rating is 30.9 after 3 games. good enough for 99th out of 103 qbs thus far.
Only ones worse are:
Rodney Peete 23.7
Kordell Stewart 22.2
Tony Romo 9.5
Joe Germaine 0 (Joe Germaine threw 1 pass & it was intercepted.)
Curious that... ;)

Yeah, i know it's a double post, but I'm too lazy to give separate answers;
I know, but i think it WOULD be cool to see the 2 collide. i'd be interested in a show-down. Yes, I know my 'Niners look weak, but I still love 'em and will stick with them through thick-and-thin

I was watching their defence.Fine :p
I heard the Denver beat writer on 610 the other day......He said Lynch looked old and slow.........
It was pretty well-documented that Denver cut some corners on his physical to bring him in. The Bucs said there was ZERO chance he could pass their physical, which is why they let him go.
Besides...as the saying goes...offense wins games ;)

heh, I am obviously not very clued up on the NFL and in this thread is the shattering evidence...the fact that I picked Dallas as the winning team for the elimination game yet everyone here has said their opponents are gonna be victorious kinda tells me I'm not gonna last long in the elimination game ~sighs~
I thought the cowboys where supposed to be good...no?
What about the Patriots?

Apoc, the beautiful thing about football is that there is rarely a team that dominates the sport for years on end (like in, oh, say, baseball). A team can be great one year and suck royal butt the next...and there are so many variables that contribute to a team's greatness or suckethness. A couple of the useful things to look at are the players' stats and the injured list.
wiggin
September 8th, 2004, 19:45
I'm telling you... if only the Yankees had a real salary cap, then they wouldn't be that good. Since they put up the cash for the players, they get the Series. But that doesn't stop some teams who've always been flush with cash from sucking historically... er... like the Cubs.

Actually...to be honest...with the default sorting you would probably start out ok...and the randomness of the autodraft...
I wouldn't be completely surprised if you win it all ;)

Well here's my picks...
Thursday, Sep. 9
Indianapolis at New England (don't particularly like NE, and their big games came down to a lucky single play usually so it could go either way thus I'm for the colts)
Sunday, Sep. 12
Arizona at St. Louis (no explaination needed)
Baltimore at Cleveland
Cincinnati at N.Y. Jets
Detroit at Chicago (seeing as how Detroit hasn't won a road game in ages, even with some improvements, don't see em winning)
Jacksonville at Buffalo (Toss up)
Oakland at Pittsburgh
San Diego at Houston (don't care)
Seattle at New Orleans (for :toussel: 's naturally, and the fact that they'll win)
Tampa Bay at Washington (Gibbs, Portis, and the fact I'm a Redskin!)
Tennessee at Miami (meh)
Atlanta at San Francisco (~snicker~)
Dallas at Minnesota
N.Y. Giants at Philadelphia (Don't like dah dirty birds but Giants just aren't up to par)
Kansas City at Denver (upset special hopefully)
Monday, Sep. 13
Green Bay at Carolina (Even though liking em is taboo, I like the packers...cause family lives there and are really big fans)

How may yards rushing does Cincy give up a game? What is the current strength of Cleveland's Offense(okay so there isn't one)? Cleveland will still humble the Bungles. (I know full well it will most likely be the other way around but 27 years of being a Browns Fan won't go away, even after Five years of being dismal.)

Man, what a great performance by Cleveland last week! Yeah they lost but let's be honest..who thought it would be that close? Butch should've kept the offense on the field on 4th and inches in OT and let the running game grab that first down. We get it and more than likely we win! Philly couldn't stop the run all game and he doesn't attempt to get a yard in OT!
Oh well, great game to watch! Hopefully we can go for the sweep against the Ratbirds next week!

Oh don't worry, I'm not rooting for them to win, I just think that they have the best chance at taking the Pats out first. Plus I want to pick the right teams that will win so I can stay in the hunt here at the quill :)
I definitely want the Steelers to lose the rest of their games! Let's hope I'm wrong on this pick and every other AFC North team that's playing this week gets beat as well!

Packers are said to have won the first two super bowls, but no actual tapes of the first two Super Bowls exist. So one can postulate that since there are no official records, it could be one massive brainwash instigated by the cheese lovers.

So far so good, 7-3. Should have known better with Atlanta though. I'm happy I was wrong about the Packers, close game though, too close. If the Redskins had won with that deflection catch with no time left rather than the OT kick it would have qualified for one of the best game endings in regular season, ever. Nonetheless, they won and I'm finally feeling better after Saturday night.
Lastly, Malc, what happened with KC?

The AFC West just isn't very good this year. The Chargers have talent, but hired one of the worst head coaches ever. Their fans are revolting (in both meanings--they were chanting 'Marty' after they started losing), and the players might not be far behind. The Broncos are a hair's breadth from being 0fer, the raiders are well, the raiders. The Chiefs are on the border of bad and mediocre and would be a lot better if the offense could find ANY consitancy in the first half.

i guess i'm a bit surprised that turner couldn't come in and put the chargers on autopilot with the talent on that team. chargers were a top-tier team last year. seems like one manhandling by a very good (cheating or no) pats team and they've gone into a tail-spin. i know it's waaaay early to talk playoff picture, and who knows about injuries and stuff, but man, look at the AFC east this year.
i'm happy for green bay, but i don't see them making it deep into the playoffs this year unless they right some areas, and fast. there's no reason the vikings should even have been in this one at the end like they were.
no offense amelia, but i really hope to see the cards pick it up the rest of the year. nearly came back against baltimore, and the win today. i'm not even a cardinals fan, but they've been bad for so long it'd be refreshing to see them in the playoffs for what.. the second time in my lifetime?
sad to me that the cowboys look like the cream of the crop in the NFC this year. are we back to that again?
