    Default Location is EVERYTHING!

hehe...this seems to be the last major detail. Not that we have everything figured out, but good enough I think to get started and try to work out bugs. So, one of the things that seemed to be agreed upon is focusing on a smaller area (at least early on, until we find our legs). So, where do you want to go? And please, for the sake of discussion, post a reason why.

    Poll forthcoming!

EDIT: Since I don't know how many people will be voting, I made it so you could vote for multiple places...in the end we'll narrow it to one...

I guess this is still a double post...but whatever

My primary choice would be Ameloct. I'm not going to lie and tell you it isn't because this is the city I created. But, in its defense, it has plenty of built in opportunities. Leaders hanging on to their rule...disgruntled peasants...seaport...nearby mines...oh, and all the abandoned (or ARE they) towers; palaces; and assorted ruins.

My second choice was the Wizards school...hey, it worked for Harry Potter.

I voted Ameloct, lots of promise there. I don't think I'll be starting off there though. Also, like, I have an idea about where the war should bein terms of time.

How about starting the war again 5 or 10 years later? I would LOVE to write the opening post because I already have a couple of ideas.

Alot of interesting developments could have occured in those five years to everyones characters (perhaps the land has returned to a semblance of stability) and give people fresh ideas to work with, but without having to relinquish their characters. Though of course it can be fine to start with new characters too. What dost everyone think?

Have to list my thoughts behind my choice

Nothing against the race specific locations but to me it’d feel constricted or limiting for character selection. I mean why would a bunch of other species be doing in the Halfling land and we can only have so many Halflings before it gets boring. I’d like it to be more neutral grounds (even if the majority of the neutral locations could be considered human dominate, meh even in DnD they’re considered the norm)

So Ularu, Isternesse, and Darkstone Keep, are out (for me)

Need something new hence the new war heh, so Bloomingdale and Neves are out. Along those lines, even the area surrounding Bloomingdale was widely covered so those cities near it would be questionable. Thus making Balenoct, Kalasar, and Onimas questionable. (though I’m more just brushing them under the rug, shhhh)

Thus leaving the majority of the bottom half of the map ripe for the picking…

Delen’dun sounds very mysterious yet for the major base of operations you need something a little more defined though is perfect for a complimentary area

Sacnoth pretty much falls into the same category.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is, I’m with Malcor. Amelot looks to have lots of potential.

i voted for sacnoth because i think it's an interesting place for rogues and fiends. I like the idea of a barren desert city, rich in culture and very remote and distant from all the "major" cities of the world. in such a city, thieves can thrive, whores can become generals, and the possibilities are endless!

anyway, i also voted neves and ameloct, so that's alright. though now that i think of it, i feel that my character will be from sacnoth!

I voted for Ameloct and the Wizard school. I think both offer enough options for character creation and development. The Wizard school could be cool because we could all start out as younger versions of our last characters attending the school or just start fresh as students and teachers. It would definitely take the war in a different direction than its ever been.

The poll is closed, Ameloct wins with Sod off Sylverwood coming in a close second

So I take it then that the next "war" shall be largely based around Ameloct and it's surroundings/close neighboring cities, or what? I ask this only because after reading the characters thread we have a smatter of people from all over, which is great; variety being the spice of life and all. I just want to make sure everyone is in agreement as to where the majority of the "action" is proposed to be centered, especially now that we qausi want time to matter and if people start out from all over, travel time becomes an issue. We don't want it to take three chapters for people just to get to be able to interact with other characters...

Just an idea...seeing as we're somewhere between 100-1000 years later...maybe we should refresh slightly the locations...as we're now some distance in the future...stuffs got to have changed a bit...the cities still standing obviously...a refreshing of them would be a good idea in my opinion..

I believe defined borders would have been made and kingdoms solidified or something like that...or this...
the northern kingdom of Bloomingdale (C), Kalasar and Ominas.
the eastern elven kingdom of Isternesse(C).
the western kingdom of Balenoct, Wolf's Keep and Ameloct.-(C?)
the Neves Empire of Neves(C), Ehrenhal and Darkstone Keep.
and the southern Dardenion kingdom of Delen'dun(C), Numenial, Ithili and Sacnoth.

~is upset, numenial and ithili are still not on the map~ numenial is important to me...especially as my two chars are Nyrmidians.

So yeah, i just believe quite strongly that after almost a 1000 years...the things of legend should be old...not the same as they still are...and that however slightly the cities creators wish it...that the cities should get a refreshing.

I dunno, if we keep to the idea of interacting in a limited space to promote increased character interactions, the few locations everyone have decided on using weren't really touched upon in the previous war, thus "refreshing" it isn't really all that necessary, at least I would think. Sure rulers may have changed but the description malcor gave for Ameloct is pretty timeless, he never really gave specifics and Ominas would just have different wizards. Now while the rest of the lands would have an impact on the story they will be more background than real locations, locations per say and as such maybe a cursory update as to what has befallen them in the succeeding time, not much more.

I mean, half the fun will be how we can weave the past into the present, whether to further our own plots, humorous stabs at one another, or to add color to the story. Doing any official changes to the land negates the point of keeping things the same as the previous war. What's next?...people haven't always worshiped the same gods and deities over the ages, will they need refreshing too? Nothing at all against you apoc, but it sounds like too much changing when we really should keep it simple. It's taken us this long just to get this far

I'm sure though someone will eventually update the map

Well, I planned to introduce my character and her past in Onimas and then have her end up in Ameloct. No worries on the time issue. I planned on having a lot of the story of her journey between Onimas and Ameloct happen in flashbacks.
