    Default new war discussion/quiries/mistakes etc.

So yeah...i thought the new war should have a new place to do background chat and stuff...and here it is...so to start off...

    Brilliant begginning!

but i've gotten thrown off a couple times with these first few posts...though typically excellent...a couple things...

So...and correct me please if i'm wrong...

it is now 107 years after the time of Queen Selena, no? And arch, your char wasn't originally in Bloomingdale was he?

Cause...and i may have read it wrong...arch, was your char not heading to Bloomingdale and thinking that Selena was still queen...and was marcus' char not heading into bloomingdale when your guy is now miraculously riding out...are these small mistakes or am i just a dumbass...if i am, my apologies...i have the excuse of tiredness and jetlag hehe

anyway...brilliant start nonetheless...can't wait to join in :broken:

Well, yes, Aramus' first post is somewhere far off. Originally i was going to have a long journey to Bloomingdale, but since marcus jumped in, we can just as easily think of Aramus' first post as a sort of prequel, and we've skipped the uninteresting travel bits. And I should say i'm glad marcus jumped in as well.

Aramus is only returning to Bloomingdale because he knows Selena is not and hasn't been, queen for a while.

It's been a while since Selena was queen, and he doubts anyone will recognize him. Bloomingdale is the type of town where his skills can make a fortune... as long as he doesn't reach too high again.
And Marcus is riding into bloomindale yes, but Aramus wasn't riding out, he was just riding around in bloomindale now. the out of control horse is the one that chose the road out of town.

By the way, i'm glad you started this, because i probably would have explained that first bit if there had been a thread here already.

I have about nine Yuvna posts to get through before I put her into the storyline. They're all short, about as short as the first, but I'd rather stagger them slightly than combine them (or post them one after the other). So yes.. feel free to mention her in some way for now, but don't expect interaction just yet.

Okay - for those of you who have already read my last post, I have added two more lines right at the very end which change the tone at the ending somewhat, but otherwise make very little difference. The conscientious student in me thought I should point it out though.

Also - get writing you lazy sods

And for anyone unfortunate enough to wander in to Yuvna's house, this detailed map may prove useful:

alright, so... writing that last post i could have sworn cass had a character that was some sort of captain in the guard, and i was going to have the inspector send him out to meet aramus on the road, ensuring the mission was going as advertised, but then that character was confusingly not there at all.

so i kinda hijacked prince aralim. he hasn't been doing too much anyway, right? anyway, i wanted to pull someone else into the aramus/marcus story line, someone who would keep them on the path, so i used him. i can just as easily make some random captain guy up if you'd prefer james.

Yeah, that's cool, except I'll have to alter my next post drastically now that you've gone and posted before I could post my post, you swine...

I'm feeling a little constrained by this war. BY the wars in general. Even with Wendy and myself breaking rules, I can't help but feel that we're trapped in the linear structure of a role-playing game. One thing happens, then another thing happens. It's all a little too reactionary. Is anybody else ready to try something different?

Here is what I thought, for this war which is not a war:

We start with a house, and a family living in the house. When you start, you invent one member of the family - no more. The only other characters you are able to write about must be members of the family which have already been created (so the first post would ostensibly have only one character). I use the term "family" in a loose sense.

Time is non-linear. Nothing has to "happen" sequentially, unless you want it to.

Nothing is concrete. What is written can be unwritten, undermined, denied, twisted, reshaped, expanded, controlled, unleashed, ignored. The space within the house is the conceptual space of our minds, where all things are possible, so long as they occur within the house. That, and the limitations on character, comprise the only rules (although there is nothing to prevent duplicate characters - they are just unlikely to last forever, coming and going like the seasons, like the tides - and the internal structure/architecture of the house is completely flexible). Characters can be seen to leave the house, or observed through the windows doing things outside, but no perspective should take you outside the house. It can be discussed or invented or imagined by the characters, but it can't be explored. It is perhaps the unknown.

These things mean, hopefully, more conceits, or themes. Say, for instance, you want to explore the relationship between people and houseplants. This doesn't require assimilation into any storyline. Posts can be perfectly self-contained. Perhaps mini-plots will evolve, be dropped and picked up at whim. Perhaps "plots" will actually mean the exploration of similar ideas from different angles by different writers. Certain structures will inevitably reoccur, in the same way that ideas are picked up in the traditional war.

How it begins, if it begins, is probably not really important. I had this idea that the initial posts should all begin with the same line (like gelflingjen's reflection thread), just to get us into the swing of things, to give us a starting point. The only thing I think that is definitely important is a title. A name for the house.

Anybody interested? Or do we like the war as it is? It doesn't necessarily have to be abandoned if the non-war begins.

I've greatly enjoyed reading the meandering philosophical discussion and slapstick dementia of such a menagerie that has ruled the recent war but personally, i feel the storyline i presumed was the main story (the beasts curse) took a back seat for much of it and though i loved reading all the posts, i personally found it difficult to integrate anything i wrote with what evidently became the main aspect of the war and thus I just randomly spewed fourth absolute drivel to what i considered a storyline i could get into, the beasts curse, but at the same time felt i may be stepping on peoples toes whilst doing it ~shrugs~

So to sum up, i love the war thats currently running, but doubt i'll contribute anything more myself, but hope it continues cause it is humerous and entertaining to read. Your new idea sounds intriguing, i'd be up for it.

oooh thats an awesome idea, I would join in.

And heh Cass, it was just the less other people posted, the more I felt I could be silly in my posts cos hey, it was like no ones posting anyway. But I guess it just compounded things cos then less and less people post. (I assume James felt the same way?) still I had no idea we were scaring people off. I have to say, I enjoyed your last post immensely and enjoyed dragging you into our style even if only temporarily

So yeah, I'm up for Jame's idea, it sounds new and exiciting and different.

What shall we call the house?

I mostly posted out of sheer eccentricity. Also I suspected we may have been giving other writers the willies. Yay for us

I really can't think what we should call it, but we could always pinch the name of a famous or quasi-famous building. Leopoldskron Castle? Fawlty Towers? 24 Heriot Row?

I like the idea of our own invention.

    The House of Iodine?
The House of Bliss and Misery?
    The House of Mouse?

The War... After my very first post, my posting dwindled away! It became embarrasingly clear that I had no idea where to go. It is quite possible that in fact I didn't have to go anywhere, but in my mind I kind of thought I must. And so I more or less stopped. Choked. That being said, I had a dream last night, a weird dream, and it gave me an idea or two for the fate of my sad clown. Also, reading about Yuvna and her ex and their...adventures?, is great great fun, so don't you dare stop!

This new house thing though, seems more fitting for my personality. I didn't see the war as a place to write about, say, the hierachial workings of tangerines, but in this house though... In my room... Great idea
