    Default Peter Pan Sequel?

Spoiler Alert: There are some (in my opinion, mild) spoilers in the link. I wont include any in the body of this text, tho.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20061005...h_061005133656

So basically, the original author of Peter Pan bequeathed the copyright of the story to some childrens hospital, and it expires next year. So (I'm assuming) in order to keep $$ coming in to the hospital, they figured if new authors might begin adding on to the PP world, they would instigate it themselves. So they had a contest thing & picked an author and are now publishing a sequel to the story. The royalties will be split between the new author and the hospital.

So... what do you think of this? Is anyone interested in reading the new story? It is weird for an unrelated author to continue on a story, dont you think? What would you like to see in a sequel to PP?

I'd say...I'm sceptical. But then again I always am when someone mess around with the things I like. And then, in the end, I end up loving some of the fooling around that has been done. This, I think, atleast will be good for the children. Or the hospitals financial "adviser".

About the book itself, I agree that it is a bit weird for someone else to just take over another persons personal universe. But I'm sure a competent person can pull it off well enough. This is in a vague kind of way resembling a spoiler, so I'll put it like this. Does anyone get the classical trilogy vibe from this? The whole returning to a darker Neverland thing...So at least one more book will be necessary to put things straight. Voilá, the author has made sure she gets to write the next one to

I'll probably read it. I usually do.

Hm...was the origional written as a story first? I thought it had been written as a play. Once someone gave me the 'origional script'--which was written brillantly! The best part of the play were the stage directions. The story in this written form was actually quite adult in some ways...pretty dark.

I dunno about a sequel. The writing stlyes are so different now vs. then. And what if they McCheeze it all up...grrr...that could be really bad, actually. Then again, in the right hands...

EEEEEEEEE!!!! Not many of you know this...but I live for Peter Pan. Not the creepy guy on the internet who dresses like Peter Pan. But the idea and concept behind Peter Pan. It's brilliant and magical. I own all the different makes and remakes of Peter Pan and the Peter Pan story (Finding Neverland, The Disney Animated, Hook, ect). And, yeh, it was a play first.

I think there's a chance a sequel of sorts could really F-uck up the story. But, I also think there are a lot of people who worship the concept, who adore the original writer and who wouldn't want to cheese it up.

Peter Pan makes my day better. When I was little I used to wish wish WISH for Peter to come take me away to Neverland. I think most kids do. And I think there's not enough imagination in kids today. I mean, You've got to have a little bit of an imagination to get caught up in talking fish. But...none of the kids I hang out with these days are building forts, hopping around of rock pillows or pretending to fly. It's a crying shame!!!!

I'm all for bringing Peter Pan out again and letting he and tink create some more mischief in kids.

    lol

    ~giggles~

That'd be Great Ormond Street Hospital heh i apologise, but its funny to me, cause its the most famous hospital in britain and for it to be called "some" childrens hospital i find most amusing...

anyways, not sure what your link said cause its expired...but there was a documentary on the bbc a few weeks back about it...the process they went through to get the author, i thought to be very good...basically i think they got the best person for possibly doing it, i'm pretty sure she is a published author and in the documentary she read exerts from Peter Pan in Scarlet to kids at great ormond street and they loved it...

i think it ought to be pretty good...for a kids book...certainly better than that harry twatheed...i mean potter...

only one thing bugs me...from what i understand...captain hook is back didn't he get gobbled by the croc?
