Cool 100 Word Comp. - Hall of Infamy

    por vous

This long-promised accompaniment to our long-neglected, delayed and ill-treated competition, is dedicated to those who have risen above all the lies, misdirection and their own laziness to not only enter stories, but to also champion the acclaim of judges and voters everywhere. Yes, I mean the winners. Losers stay out!*

I am hoping that the sight of names in these hallowed halls will inspire you who have already won, and others who some day might, to enter in future competitions. Trust me when I say that this is the quickest way to immortality after martyrdom. Fame can be yours, fame and fortune and beautiful women/men fawning over you, and a thousand shiny feathers in your finest hats..

..maybe! At the very least, anyone who enters will have my thanks

*I mean that in a nice way, of course, and in fact no one should post in here but me.

I know this is a clubbing cliché, but that night I could see the music. I could see its effect, the way that the words and beats were bringing us all together. The music was a wave of empathy, washing away the petty rubbish between us. I felt that wave burn away my constant disgust and overbearing arrogance and I felt free. Better yet I felt connected. Connected to the strangers around me, to my best friends, and most importantly I felt more connected to her. God might be a DJ, but it’s fucking great to be alive.

And They All Lived Happily Ever After
Briar-Rose was a sleepwalker, and she frequently suffered from nightmares. For the one hundred years of her curse she wandered the tower screaming horribly. By the time the prince arrived her voice was gone, her legs were eerily muscular and her mind was broken. Legend had told of a beautiful damsel sleeping under enchantment; what he discovered was a haggard wretch staggering about and railling soundlessly against invisible terrors. He fled the tower, haunted by what he seen. The princess went unkissed, but awoke anyway, and without a moment's hesitation leapt through a window to her death. The end.

    Possession
A misunderstanding of monumental proportions: all she could do was leave. For she knew with sudden clarity that he thought her a possession. He believed he deserved her. Just as he believed he deserved his car (for the Enron case) and his house (the Haliburton deal) and his Law Degree (his father arranged it). She knew how he would see her; like a malfunctioning appliance, its purpose, its meaning, void, now that it had broken and stopped doing its job (to stay). She didn’t care about this. She was only sad he would never understand that she loved him.

    In Limbo
Every word said was a precious jewel to him. Every gesture; a work of art unrivaled in aesthetic quality. When she looked at him he knew the torment that awaits' the sinner after death. When she looked at him he felt the serenity that is the righteous man's reward. He vehemently cursed his own clumsiness with words every time they spoke. Her eyes stole any vestige of wit he possessed. A lover's trials are more harrowing than any soldiers, at war your life is all that's at risk. He prayed for strength. She smiled then; and he was lost...

The enemy sitting across from me was proving to be very vexing indeed. Every move I made, he anticipated, reacted, and countered. Each look I gave was met with outright mockery. His gaze followed mine; there was no hope for escape. I took small pleasure in knowing that my actions began to anger him. His mimicry continued, but under it showed an edge of rage that grew and grew. I sought to end the stalemate with one terrible blow. Alas, he saw it coming and his hand rose up to meet my own. There they met... and the glass shattered.
