By which I mean music videos, this place being a place to share links to them. They've always fascinated me as an art form. When I was younger I used to spend hours recording the charts off tv and playing them over and over again, using skilful video editing to record over crappy songs with snatches of good songs that I caught only the end of. Thanks to youtube and broadband I no longer need bother, and while I no longer retain the unquestioning youthful idealism that held my finger above my vcr's record and pause buttons for two hours, I still find music videos to be somehow magical and endearing. They don't always add depth to the music, or provide insight into a song's meaning, or do anything other than weird you out, but they add at least one layer of frivolous entertainment to the experience of listening, and I think that's important. Well not important really, but.. Well, anyway..
Tom Waits - "God's Away on Business"
One of my favourite videos and favourite artists to boot. Really captures the eccentric genius and diabolical strangeness of the man. Watch and be amazed at how commonplace the emu seem beside him.
Of Montreal - "Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse"
From their most recent album "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?", which I am in love with. In fact there isn't a single song on it that I don't like and sing along to while driving. This video, like the music itself, is sheer delightful madness.
The Shins - "Australia"
Never really listened to this band before, but after watching this I'm pretty intrigued. Features the band in orange jumpsuits, emancipating orange balloons from a car dealership. Orange!
Boduf Songs - "27th Raven's Head"
Gorgeous track, gorgeously simple and haunting video. Another band I now want to see more of.
MF DOOM - "Monkey Suite"
Best rapper alive, maybe even better than that. This comes from an as yet unreleased album, I think. Love it.
These Arms Are Snakes - "Horse Girl"
Via Pitchfork: "maybe there is some subtle symbolism we're missing here-- but it looks like this video is about a My Little Pony doll that decides to try life as a prostitute in L.A., gets pelted with drugs by a giant butthole, then turns into a goat-horned, evil super horse. Oh, the pony also eats sparkling maggots and then, after changing into a superhorse, destroys L.A. with some lightning-fire." (the music is crap imo but worth watching for the novelty factor)
Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
This probably needs no introduction, so that's as much as I'll say.

Maybe it should be done more often, send people to Norway and we'll get them depressed and creative.
