    Default sounds & moving pictures

By which I mean music videos, this place being a place to share links to them. They've always fascinated me as an art form. When I was younger I used to spend hours recording the charts off tv and playing them over and over again, using skilful video editing to record over crappy songs with snatches of good songs that I caught only the end of. Thanks to youtube and broadband I no longer need bother, and while I no longer retain the unquestioning youthful idealism that held my finger above my vcr's record and pause buttons for two hours, I still find music videos to be somehow magical and endearing. They don't always add depth to the music, or provide insight into a song's meaning, or do anything other than weird you out, but they add at least one layer of frivolous entertainment to the experience of listening, and I think that's important. Well not important really, but.. Well, anyway..

Tom Waits - "God's Away on Business"
One of my favourite videos and favourite artists to boot. Really captures the eccentric genius and diabolical strangeness of the man. Watch and be amazed at how commonplace the emu seem beside him.

Of Montreal - "Heimdalsgate Like A Promethean Curse"
From their most recent album "Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?", which I am in love with. In fact there isn't a single song on it that I don't like and sing along to while driving. This video, like the music itself, is sheer delightful madness.

    The Shins - "Australia"
Never really listened to this band before, but after watching this I'm pretty intrigued. Features the band in orange jumpsuits, emancipating orange balloons from a car dealership. Orange!

    Boduf Songs - "27th Raven's Head"
Gorgeous track, gorgeously simple and haunting video. Another band I now want to see more of.

    MF DOOM - "Monkey Suite"
Best rapper alive, maybe even better than that. This comes from an as yet unreleased album, I think. Love it.

These Arms Are Snakes - "Horse Girl"
Via Pitchfork: "maybe there is some subtle symbolism we're missing here-- but it looks like this video is about a My Little Pony doll that decides to try life as a prostitute in L.A., gets pelted with drugs by a giant butthole, then turns into a goat-horned, evil super horse. Oh, the pony also eats sparkling maggots and then, after changing into a superhorse, destroys L.A. with some lightning-fire." (the music is crap imo but worth watching for the novelty factor)

    Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
This probably needs no introduction, so that's as much as I'll say.

cool idea for a thread watched all your vids...not really my kind of music, the first one is really bizarre and kinda spooky. I think all your selections are interesting though, it was quite an insight into a different artistic field that i've never really explored further than listening to snippets, so nice one. Black Hole Sun was cool, i like that vid. You like your music to be a bit strange, don't you? heh thats cool, i'm quite picky when it comes to music and you all know what i'm like with film and that includes music vids, so here are some of my top picks, favourite songs and videos combined...hope you and everyone else like my few choice selections...

    Apoc top 5 picks
    1: Kasabian - Empire
Brilliant video, quality song. I find myself humming and whistling the chorus alot heh.
2: Queens of the Stone Age - Burn the Witch
I've always thought, if someone is a witch, shouldn't you be nice to her? hehe
    3: Muse - New Born
Awesomeness to the highest degree in my mind. Love the song, love the video. The build up and resolution of the song with the video is wonderful.
    4: Radiohead - Just
Now radiohead do some excellent videos, it was a toss up between this and street spirit...but i just love this video so much, evertime i watch it i'm freakin out and screaming "tell me!?!" hehe
    5: Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla
love sigur ros and this video is cute...such a great bunch of elderly characters acting like a childish gang of kids heh love it.

Many excellent videos and some great music guys... Especially like the Boduf Songs one, video and song both are genious. As of Of Montreal; great stuff, I especially like how A sentence of sorts in kongsvinger follows Gronlandic edit on the album. Funky just doesn't cover it Maybe it should be done more often, send people to Norway and we'll get them depressed and creative.

Sigur Rós is of course very, very good, and my favourite video from them is to the song Glósóli:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=doc1eqstMQQ

Of course, videos... Aphex Twin - Come to daddy

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Az_7U0-cK0

Very sad this one, probably one many has seen but still... Air - Cherry Blossom Girl

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IWX0X1W0abU

They sing in swedish, but the music is okay, and the video is cool
    Kent - Dom som försvann

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFekK49HOLE

Argh, poor memory... will try to be back with more soon.

    another quick addition...

Prodigy - Smack my Bitch Up
Forget about the song being used in charlies angels...this is the prodigy... dark, violent, uncut and brilliant and as beautiful as a rock in a NEDS face :broken:

    Definitely a good idea

Aphex Twin - Come to daddy

That's crazy talk. Eccentric maybe, but never strange. Ok maybe sometimes.
    5: Sigur Ros - Hoppipolla

I've never actually seen a sigur ros vid before watching this one. Love it.

    Quasimoto - Come On Feet
So Quasimoto is pretty much Madlib (the normal sounding guy on this track) inhaling helium, and then rapping. The album this is off, The Unseen, is damn excellent, especially I think Madlib's use of the jazz music in tracks. "I love jazz my man".

possibly all of the coolest music videos ever are done my the incomparable Michel Gondry, director of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. The guy is simply... genius.

Sugar Water by Cibo Matto is probably one of my favorties of his videos.

Come into My World by Kylie Minogue is an irritatingly catchy pop song, but the video is... well, when you discover that it was all done IN CAMERA, that the whole damn video is just one shot, layered over itself multiple times, well, "mind numbing" doesn't quite cover it. In terms of trying to attempt this at home, it comes firmly under the "you can try, but it will never, ever happen" category.

Hilarious video. Especially if you were so lucky (puke) to catch the Song and video Call on me by Eric Prydz a while ago, but should be funny to anyone. Ps, keep a lookout for E.T.

I always liked this song, it's nice, and if the video isn't very experimental, or sparkling with genius or anything, it is also nice

    Baz Lurham (?) - Sunscreen

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OojsLDYr7RY

Song: Don't feel guilty if you don't know what you want to do with your life.
    Me: Thank you song.
Song: Some of the most interesting people I know didn't know at twenty-two what they wanted to do with their lives.
Me: Whoarhg, I'll be 22 before you know it! But I'll be interesting
