    Default Board Games, etc.

I'm a big fan of board games, and usually the more complicated and strategic, the better.

I've had a good bit of fun lately with a game called Carcasonne. Very simple to learn and play, but also the opportunity for some good strategy. Games are generally pretty quick, and there's basically no set up whatsoever.

Also, anyone enjoy Catan in any of its formulations? i've only played the original one a few times, the spacefarer's one is fun as well.

But the version i'm enjoying the most right now is the card game. one of the best features is that it's designed for two players, so it doesn't take much to get a game going. i have the original, and i'm looking forward to trying out some of the expansions. this would be a really easy game to convert to online play as well. the card game has significantly less strategic choices than the regular board games, but it's also pretty quick (45min-1hr play time) and is easy to learn.

I've played Carcassonne quite a bit last year. It's an interesting game, but I could never really get into it b/c of a couple people I played it with. It's one of those games where the game basically plays itself and you are free to sit and chat while it goes and suffice to say that the conversations I had during those sessions were god awful and have jaded my view of the game.

I can see why people like it though.

Never played Catan, but I have heard of it. It has a huge online following.

My favorite table top game was a card game called Munchkins. This game is very silly, and if played with silly people it becomes even more silly. I love it
I wanna be like a goose and fly to new orleans for the winter and to canada for the summer.

I like Chez Geek, which I think is the same people who make munchkins. Chez Geek is a fun card game that reminds me of college life and as with Munchkins the more people who play the sillier it becomes!

Urgh. I had the same problem last year. The only people that played any boardgames sucked and that made the whole experience jaded.

My personal favourites are Risk and Monopoly, especially if I'm up against sore loosers. I LOVE playing people with a will to win. It's so delicious to crush... And of course, when you don't care yourself there's no way for them to fight back. Flawless

yeah, risk is an old stand-by. can't count how many games of risk i've played over the years. of course, i do find the newer variations to be far more entertaining than the original. specifically Risk 2210 and Godstorm.

chess is the only board game ~nods~

all others claiming to be are but figments of your imagination, poor copies or dun dun DUN a waste of time disguised as fun.

    SWEET JESUS!!!

I LOVE Catan! And munchkin...I only played once with QT and the boys...but it was okay.

Catan is probably my favorite, though. We had settlers and seafarers...and then we got the third expansion (cities and castles or something)...I only played that one twice. It starts to get confusing at that point.

Pass the pigs is fun, too. And kind of silly. And Apples to Apples is good. But neither of those are board games.

Also, I'm definitely not smart enough for Chess. Hell, or Checkers for that matter.

No. Seriously. My boyfriend is music.

apples to apples can also be quite fun, but that one depends a lot on who you play with. if they're silly, relaxed and not necessarily playing to win by the rules, then it's great. but if they're serious about going by the book and everyone's idea of winning is getting the set number of green cards, instead of just having a fun time, then it's not that great.
same thing goes for the balderdash style of games. i played one called beyond balderdash recently, where instead of just word definitions, you also have acronyms, movie titles, dates, and people to make up stuff about. the group i played with was awesome, and we had a blast.

also, apoc, if it is disguised well enough to be indistinguishable from real fun, then for all intents and purposes, it is fun.
