ok... so maybe we are closer to the same page than i thought.

but the best part will be when the race has nothing to do with it. when its just one person vs another. voting based solely on the person's ideas. that we don't even have to talk about teh fact that obama is black. maybe i'm a bit of an idealist...

Honestly, Obama is one of the few politicians in D.C. I don't regard as shady or corrupt. He took no money from lobby groups during his campaign, and even got the democratic party to play along which is extremely impressive.

McCain on the other hand, the last 4-8 years has fallen down from the man I knew him as. He basically became a Bush yes man and most of this campaign he was pathetic. His speech was good, but it doesn't erase his actions from the last 4 years.


As for what Obama is planning on doing. He's been laying it out there for quite some time. His stance on issues, his plans when he gets in office, are all out in the open. He's been pretty open about it.

What gives you the inclination that he has a secret agenda?

The idea that giving people money they have not earned is the best way to motivate them to earn money for themselves is delusional. And that's just one of his platforms inherently flawed in its concept.

Unless you're a bank, of course.

I lived with a brit for a while, we had tea every evening. I can't imagine going to sleep without a cup of tea to this day.

Its weird that when the country takes a huge step forward in race relations, we take a step back in other ways. These amendments to ban Gay marrige in Florida and California are just rediculas, and this ban in mississippi of gay couple adopting children is horrible. Like it's better to have a child without parents then have 2 good parents not be allowed to love and raise the child cause they are gay. In the US we call ourselves "land of the free" but obviously that means only if your straight.

So even though we've just appointed a total novice to steer us through the most tumultuous period our nation has seen in decades, I'm taking a very sincere wait-and-see approach.

Just as some reassurance, here are a few ex-presidents with less elected experience than Obama...


Abraham Lincoln had 8 years in State Legislature, 2 years in Congress.
Theodore Roosevelt had 4 years State Assembly, 1 year Governor of NY, 1 year Vice President.
FDR had 3 years State Senator, 4 years Governor of NY.

Obama had 8 years State Senate, 4 years US Senator.

There are oodles more, and many presidents with lots of experience who end up being not fondly remembered (James Buchanan is up there on the list of presidents with the most former elected experience). Technically, Reagan only had 8 years as Governor, and W. Bush only had 6. (Though obviously that's not reassuring. )

Barack Obama is a very intelligent person, and his VP is a seasoned veteran. He is also appointing people to the cabinet with oodles of experience and know how. Nothing about him strikes me as intelligible or incompetent so far. The difference between our current president and the president elect is night and day.
