Eh, your old one just needs a weapon from leveling up and will be in a better position.
So, apparently a victory against someone same lvl, -1, and -2 net you 2 xp, someone -3 only gives you 1xp. So far I haven't tried fighting someone +3 to me to see if I get more xp that way, perhaps tomorrow I'll try that out, or just make a lvl 1 and try fighting some lvl 4s.
