Okay, I have an idea. On the approval system, what if you were able to approve/disapprove of a peson in general, as well their individual posts. Say maybe if you clicked on a persons profile, there would be an option there to approve/disapprove of that person. Doing so would add or subtract, I don't know, say 5 points. If say you approved of someone in this matter, then later on decided you no longer approve of them, you could go into the profile again and either remove your approval or change the statuts to disapprove. 5 points would thus be taken off heir total and another 5 if you decided to disapprove of them. Just an idea, don't really know if it's practical or not

I think the system is fine as is, reputation is something that should be earned - hence through posting or other visible actions. Sure you can like (approve/disapprove) of someone in general but that's not the basis for having a high or low "reputation"

Though if you really like someone you can always just choose one of their posts and it would get the same results as having a button in their profile. So personally I don't see the need for an extra button.

Though from a programming stance I don't even think it's possible. The reputation thingy is something built into the forum and has set parameters.

You're not supposed to remain an Apprentice. That group has some serious limitations for the main reason to annoy the hell out of weirdos and trolls. Anybody sincere is supposed to get beyond as soon as possible.

If this works, and how it will work in the end, is experimental, with lots of pros and cons. Consider yourself a beta tester. You're special

i think that having to give reputation to 7 people bf you can re reputation someone is a little much.. i'm sure it's so one person can't bump and apprentice up in a day or so but still...

I have a suggestion. What about making the Fantasy News Forum a general entertainment forum for reactions to any and all movies, books, music, etc. I know these things are in the Everything Else forum, but it's so busy there and I'm just trying to think of a way to liven up the other forums. Just a thought.

yeah, an entertainment forum was discussed actually. though, it's nice to hear "too busy" about anything around here. i'm against subverting the fantasy forum though, the site is supposed to be a fantasy site, after all. just after i posted that da vinci code review, i thought about moving the book review to the fiction and prose section... dunno.

Then how about adding a general entertainment forum to the Our Escape thingie?

Actually I like that idea Amaia. It put's that stuff in a section of it's own and also makes the amount of forums in each section an even number i sort of like continuity lol.

I also think another forum for "wishes" would be good.

By "wishes" I mean....welcomes, birthdays, holidays, celebrations etc

cause they're not really discussions, are they and they take up alot of everything else which I see as a discussion sorta place, not a welcome and happy birthday forum...meh, just a wee idea from the mad scotsman

Hmm... i discussed this with amaia in chat and then sorta let this die and it hasn't been picked up yet.

Here's the deal. And keep in mind i'm speaking entirely for myself here. I generally don't like added forums. imo, it makes the main forums page look more cluttered. And beyond aesthetics, it seems like it makes it more confusing, and therefore less welcoming to new people stumbling in. It divides up the possible places to put something. Let's say i want to post something, but it's close to being on the line. Do i post in everything else? in entertainment? maybe it's between everythign else and this "wishes" forum. ~shrug~ point is, everyone is going to interpret things differently. It makes it harder to know where to put things, and harder to know where to find things. We already have some of that problem, i think, without adding more.

nf and i also discussed the welcome/b-day threads thing a bit ago. i know i've wanted to mash them into single threads for a while now, (i'd never make an entire forum for them though, especially welcomes, as that would seem to shunt new users away from the action) but there really seems to be no point other than my own opinion. ~shrug~ i did mash all the old b-day threads into a single archive type thread, but even so, i somehow doubt people venture beyond the front page very often, so does it matter? i suppose that regardless of how i feel about it, having their own personal b-day thread is a nice gesture for some people.

I partially agree with arch. Some forums could be stuck together. I like the news forum, but it's sometimes hard to distinguish between what should go there and in deep thoughts, so those two could be one forum. Although poetry and prose are easy to tell apart (duh), those could be in one forum too.

I still think there should be a general entertainment forum though (keeping fantasy separate of course ).

Okay I have a new suggestion. How about letting people who have reached "enchanter" status have IMG and HTML code. As long as we don't abuse it. Eh? Eh?
