Welcome home. No, I mean it. This is our home, and we’d like it to be yours as well. A lot of time, energy, and heart have gone into making this place. Hopefully you’ll find its someplace you want to hang your hat and stay a while. Fantasy abounds here and is the key, but we still have a touch on reality as well. So, come in and chat with the locals, be it about the new hot book on the market or the new blockbuster at the corner Cineplex. But, even more important are our people. That’s what truly makes this humble place a home. We have an incredible cast of characters in our family, so won’t you cast your lot with us?
Now, to keep our home in tip-top shape and to keep the family together we have a few rules. Yeah, we know…it sucks, but that’s the way it has to be. First, the admins and moderators reserve the right to take whatever action they deem necessary. This includes editing and deleting of posts to banning users. Use some common sense and we’re sure you won’t have any troubles. Now, a few things are not allowed under any circumstances including illegal topics, blatant flames, racist remarks, sexist comments, pornography or links to porn, and anything else we find highly inappropriate.
We also have a few guidelines…these are more rule of thumb type things. Have some respect, go easy on the use of profanity, don’t use excessive upper case (SHOUTING!), keep you signature files to a reasonable length, and no post wars. We also have a chatroom, so if you find yourself posting back and forth with someone, you might want to consider taking the discussion to chat. That kind of thing.
Well, that’s about it. Welcome, have fun, and come back. It’s going to be a lot of fun.
Be kind but not false,

Q. Why can't i put a picture in my signature?
A. This option was intentionally disabled for technical reasons.
Q. Why can't I delete my own posts?
A. This option was intentionally disabled due to a glitch in the current software.
Q. What is the purpose of the buddy list?
A. The buddy list will show you who of your buddies is online, allow you to quickly access their profile, and is a fast way to send them PMs, including sending a PM to multiple members.
Q. Where can I find my buddy list?
A. The buddy list is a popup window that can be accessed by clicking on the left-most right-facing arrow in the top right part of the screen, next to the welcome.
Q. How does the Reflections forum work?
A. If you choose to start a thread in the Reflections forum, it automatically prevents anyone besides you from posting in that thread. It's your own little corner of The Enchanted Quill.

Q. What are usergroups?
A. There are three basic usergroups. New members are Apprentices. Apprentices can graduate to become Scribes and then Enchanters. Each higher group gains (or expands) some of the forums features. Only the changes will be listed for groups after Apprentice.
Apprentice:
Can post, add an avatar, start new threads, edit their own posts, and search the forums
Have 0.1 mb attachment space and 10 PM's stored
Can't view people's profiles, post polls, change their title, use signatures, and view "Who's Online"
Scribe:
Can view people's profiles, post polls, change their title
Have 0.3 mb attachment space, 50 PM's stored
Enchanter:
Can use signatures and view "Who's Online"
Have 0.75 mb attachment space, 100 PM's stored
Q. How do I graduate to the next usergroup?
A. There are a few criteria, mostly how long you've been a member and your reputation.

Q. How do I receive reputation points?
A. You will receive a varying amount of reputation when another member chooses to give you reputation on any given post. All members have different opinions of when and on what to give reputation points.
Q. How do i give reputation?
A. You give out reputation on posts from other members by clicking the small 'talking head' icon in the lower right-hand corner of their post. A small screen will open, giving you the option to "approve" (positive reputation) or "disapprove" (negative reputation). You should also leave a comment as to why you approve/disapprove. NOTE: Reputation is anonymous, however if you wish you can include your name in the comment. This *MAY* improve your chances of getting reputation in return.
Q. How much reputation do users give with each 'hit'?
A. Generally members give out 1 point of reputation per hit.
Q. How do i know how much reputation i have?
A. You can view your reputation by clicking on the user cp tab at the top of the screen. You can see the exact amount, as well as the last 10 places you received reputation, along with comments.
Q. How do I know how much reputation someone else has?
A. You cannot see the exact amount of reputation another member has. You can, however, see a general comment about their reputation level, and a vague indicator of this level. This is included on every post someone makes, in the form of small colored squares in the bottom left of the post. More squares means more reputation, and holding your cursor over the squares will give you a general statement about the member's level.
Q. Why do some members reputations appear only as black squares?
A. This is because that member has chosen to hide their reputation. You can still give this person reputation. You also shouldn't assume a negative value because its hidden.

Q. What is the purpose of the profile pic spot in profiles?
A. The purpose of the profile pic is to provide a place where members can choose to share pictures of themselves without worrying that any member or random guest can see it.
Q. What type of pic should i put in the profile pic spot?
A. The only types of pics that are acceptable to upload into the profile pic spot are current photos of the member that profile belongs to. Any other pictures will be removed by any admin who sees them.
Q. How do i view the profile pics of others?
A. The only way to view profile pics of others is to upload a pic of yourself. If you aren't willing to share yourself, we feel you should not have the ability to view others who are. If you so choose, once you have uploaded a profile pic, PM an admin informing them. They will check it, enable you to view others, and then inform you when you can.
