    Default aSoIaF Discussion

A Song Of Ice and Fire by George RR Martin is one of the greatest series of books I have ever read, and I know others feel the same so any discussion is welcome.

Feel free to discuss or argue on who the coolest character is, what you expect of A Feast Of Crows or what the best book is or your favourite part etc etc.

All my favourite moments involved the Hound, yes there are loads of great moments, but the Hounds ones are the best in my view.

I think my favorite characters are Jon, Dany, Tyrion, and Arya. All these characters have their faults and times when I think they're stupid, but that's part of what makes them good.

I know I'll get strung up for this, but this series if FAR overrated. Its not bad, but nowhere near great. The one good thing it has going for it, IMO, is that it is actually improving with each book.

Now, the reason I don't like it so much...I don't like the characters. I don't feel attached to any of them, except maybe Arya. Jon Snow is OK. ~shrugs~

    ::smacks::

I totally feel attached to the characters, but I know tha I shouldn't, because they'll prolly die. Arya and Jon are the best. Jaime's ok, because he's realizing that he's useless without his hand.

You know, I kind of have to agree with Malc on this one. I think the books are a bit over-rated. I've read the first one, and it was okay. But I'm not really in a hurry to get to the rest of the books.

I think this is a sort of series you either love or don't. Personally, I love these. People's tastes are different.

I just finished the three standalones by Guy Gavriel Kay and I was not impressed altho alot of people have recommended them to me. I mean, they were OK, but nowhere near great. With A song for Arbonne I didn't connect with the characters and in the Lions of Al Rassan there were so many clichès and recurring uninventive shortcuts I almost didn't finish it. My fav of the three was Tigana because it had an unbiasness (is that even a word?) that is rare in fantasy. You could see both sides of the story and feel for them.

Oh, and I LOVE the Hitchhiker's Guide. My husband thought they were boring.

    I was just thinking

Oh yeah, anyway, I think the series has so much over others as there is not an ubundance of magical stuff happening. The baddies are also soooo evil and the goodies arn't that good, I think this gives it a dark edge and makes it incredibly unpredictable.

Also, to me the main baddies haven't even arrived yet, but they will storm over that wall soon enough.

I agree with Malcor on the point he made about the books getting better with each one, this is sooo true.

Just found out there is a game called The Night Watch, where you can play as a crow and go into the wildlands of the north on dangerous rangings.

    Anyone played it?

Does anyone think Stannis is actually bad, cause I don't view him as a bad guy, he's just being led by the witch, tis all? He actually became a hero thanks to Davos pointing out the trouble at the Wall, no?

    Stannis for King, I say!

and i don't think stannis is evil, but i don't really want him as king either...especially not while the red woman has him

No me neither, but if Davos was to finally get rid of her, Stannis would be a great King, especially with Davos at his side.

Daenerys, Stannis or Joffreys bro (whats his name?) for the Iron Throne? They all have goodies on their side now, thats if you think Jaimes actually a good guy now?

i think the beauty of these books is the lack of clearly defined "good guys" and "bad guys." Most of them are just people, doing what they do, for various reasons. The only things close to "evil" are the Others, and we're not even sure how far that extends. It's a mistake to classify people in these books as 'good guys' or 'bad guys' imo.

    Joffreys bro (whats his name?)
    Tommen. iirc.
I have given pleasure to the world because I have such a beautiful ass!
