Ok, this may have been really obvious but I hadn't thought about it, Jon Snow is actually the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna or am I just being silly?

No, I read it on the net and it got me thinking that I had been a blind bozo about it, cause I had my theories on who Jons parents really where but it makes more sense being this I think, so I posted to see what you lot thought.

uhhh. That's probabaly the most useless theory I've ever heard. It's not like being born of Rheagar is some how different from Ned. Sorry to rain on your parade, but whoever made up that theory has a bit too much time on their hands. (I know I'm a hypocrite, but I can't change that can I?)

Ummm, yeah it does, it means he is rightfully a Targaryen, he could end up marrying Dany. Or become the rightful King of the Iron Throne.

And yes I know he is a crow-the Crow I should say over his new position, yet when the threat of the wall is over-there will be no need of crows surely?

And thus he could be King-even dare I say it-if Dany dies.

So I believe it to be a good theory lam?

And how long was it since you read aSoIaF anyway, you couldn't remember the Hound and now you don't think a difference in parentage from Rhaegar and Ned is no big deal?

It may be silly, but it could be true and I kinda like the idea so

sure, it'd be interesting i guess, but does it have any evidence for it? i mean, there's a big difference between suggesting something just because there's nothing that says it couldn't be true, and suggesting something because something says it could be true. that didn't come out quite as i wanted it to, but it'll serve i suppose.

so far all i've seen is some baseless speculation... i'd be interested to hear if there's any real reasoning behind the theory. other than "well, it could be the case." ~shrug~

We all know something has to give with Jons parentage, otherwise why was Ned so quiet about it?

I didn't give it too much thought, then I read the Rhaegar and Lyanna theory and it did fit pretty well from everything I can remember offhand. A Catelyn pov moment I remember has her going on about Ned going off to fight for Robert then coming back with Jon, then another moment I think from Neds pov has him remembering the carnage caused and a brief mention I believe of some small goodthing-that was probably his discovery of Jon being alive?

Arghhh ignore me know I'm talking rubbish, basically I liked the theory and wondered if I was just being stupid that I missed it somehow, but I guess not.

yeah, but we're given reasons for why Ned's quiet about it.... he's supposed to be an honorable man, and he broke his betrothal to catelyn by sleeping with another woman.

er...there was something else i was going to say here, but i can't remember. hmm...maybe it'll come to me in a bit.

Actually this is a good theory. We discussed it in chat a while back (I think it was me wendy and tatum). Anyway, we figured Ned was quiet about Jon being Lyanna's son because he made a promise to her. I remember Ned recalling Lyannna mumbling about some promise just before she died.

ned states multiple times about making a promise to lyanna just before she died... and says multiple times that the content of the promise was to be buried at winterfell.

I cant see Jon not being Ned's b/c Jon resembles the Starks especially his half sister, Ara.
