Yeah Apoc thats how I see Robert too, I think he is terribly flawed of course, but I think of him more as a victim of a terrible marriage and just the kind of King who is just better at war than peace, which is why he went to seed.

Plus in my head he looks and acts like Brian Blessed, which makes me laugh

I'm going to resurrect this yet again with a question.

Is anyone still alive that could possibly know the truth of Lyanna besides Howland Reed?

If we assume Reed hasn't told anyone, then yeah, he's the only person left who was at the Tower of Joy when Lyanna died.

So I posted this in the aSoIaF Discussion thread, but I guess it belongs here.

I've read some other stuff supporting the Lyanna/Rhaegar theory and one of the speculations that goes along with it is that Jon Snow is actually going to be Azor Ahai reborn. Remember, GRRM hints that Rhaegar thought he was going to be the subject of the prophecy; Ser Barristan tells Dany that he was very bookish at a young age until one day he said something like "it seems I must be a knight" (I don't remember the exact wording). So it kind of makes sense that Rhaegar's son would be Azor Ahai, even though all the signs so far have pointed to his sister, Dany.

Still, the entire subject of Jon's lineage is confusing. I'm still stuck on the Ashara Dayne stuff. Ser Barristan seems convinced that she killed herself because she was in love with Ned and then he left her, though Edric Dayne (while traveling with Arya and Beric Dondarrion) said that Wylla really was Jon's mom. Of course, he is young and may have just believed that because that's what he was told and never knew "the truth" (if it's something else).

Sooooo yeah. What it boils down to is that we need the next book

I'm pretty sure that Danny is Azor Ahai (the dragon reborn, anyone? ) it just fits too perfectly. she was born on dragonstone. she hatched the dragons. the prophetic text is gender nonspecific despite that everyone assumed the subject would be a prince. I'm sure there are more that I've forgotten. I hadn't considered that it could be Rhaegar's son. but I don't think it will be. The signs that we are aware of so far don't seem to match with him.

and, maybe this is just wishful thinking, but I suspect that Dany and Jon will end up together in the end - maybe one of the reasons that Melisandre (sp?) sees such importance in him in her fires. Which would work really well if.... (as I believe) Jon is Lyanna/Rhaegar's child (I think that Wylla was the wet nurse for both Jon and Edric (or maybe it was another child he was referencing... don't remember) - and perhaps it was put out there that she was Jon's natural mother to curb suspicions.
