    Default Quill War Homebrew Project

I thought this alone deserved its own thread separate from the campaign threads. Especially since it's now spread over the two. I don't know any besides malcor and myself who have more than a passing interest to actually do this, and i'm not sure how far malcor goes ( ) but whatever.

    Here are some links...

Region Map - thanks to James cause i used his map as it seemed the cleanest for this purpose. this shows the regions as i've defined them, and i just sorta drew around where i thought it ought to be and what needed to be included in order for my descriptions to be accurate. ~shrug~ if you think something should be changed, don't hesitate to say so, but have a good reasion because the coords for those links are a pain in the butt.

the only one that currently goes anywhere is Amelar and that's just because it's the one that i transferred from the word file to html first. ~shrug~

the amelar page has links from "religions", which will eventually go to a page with a diety list, including domains, favored weapons, possibly a list of large temples, and hopefully, pics for their symbols.

it also has a game notes section down at the bottom, and you can see that i've put the background options link there. that will eventually go to the background options table but i'm going to change up the table a bit so it links back to regions, the map, and a description for each of the feats that malcor made up.

the last link on the amelar page is a general link to an "index" which will just be some simple page with links to each of the various spots.

anyway, whether you're interested or not, that's the plan. a few other things that i've been tossing around in my head, but we'll see what happens.

    ~resurrects another thread~

So, today i took the files i had and finally uploaded some more, since i can actually do that again. Amelar is still the only region that's up, but the others are (mostly) done in a word file, and just need to be copy/pasted into the format.

Feel free to make any comments or suggestions in the thread. I'd welcome input, especially if you see a typo or mistake.
Where is Numenial? That was kind of a sparta to the athenian like Delen'dun.

good work though...is this for a kinda dnd game or something?

oh and i also think with the map boundaries that delen'duns should be south of the mountain ranges...coz why would they have a boundary north of them, beyond?

homebrew projects are generally meant for dnd yes. the idea being to create a world in which to play. the intention, if taken fully to the end, would be to create an entire unique campaign setting akin to Greyhawk (the sort of "default" dnd setting), Forgotten Realms (this is the world we played in when the quill had that game going), or Dragon Lance to name some of the bigger ones.

Numenial and Ithili were added to the world too late to make the cut. i was using the map from amos which was the clearest and easiest map to work with for this purpose, and it has neither of those places on it. plus, there's no real reason that the "athenian" delen'dun needs a sparta, and i'd rather not have the related historical references contained in a homebrewed setting. similarly, you'll notice (once i put it up) that Ehrenhal will be changed from your original as well, because i'm not a big fan of the LotR parallel in this contex. It's nothing personal to you, and it worked for the war, but it doesn't fit within the homebrew, imo.

there are a few reasons to give for the borders being like they are...
    1. random decisions by me. no input from anyone else on it, so.. that's how i set them. most borders were set in such a way to help me include the more notable features of the map within a region. take a look at belfas as a region for example. in a nutshell, it's easier to write up notable features for them if they are included on the map, and it's easier for others to see the notable features if i don't just pull them out of my ass.
    2. regions aren't necessarily equivalent to what you'd think of as nations or even area-which-is-controlled-by-military-forces. it can and is in cases, but a region is really sort of a cultural district, setting the tone for the type of people and characters who come from that area.
    3. there are borders i would certainly not mind changing myself, looking back, but various factors make me not inclined to do so. such as... i don't have photoshop anymore, so it'd probably end up much sloppier. and that's saying a bit given the angular borders as they are now. also, it'd be a real pain to go back and reset all of the coordinates for the map to be able to link to the regions.

heh, that's probably way more reply than you were after, but there you go.

That really is some good work, arch. Maybe when DnD 4E comes out next year, and I have few classes......

    Maybe.

Edit: I think you can go ahead and move yourself to the top of the contributors list, arch...

<insert big sigh for upcoming 4E>

that's a whole other thread though.

what else i'd like to eventually have up there...
sort of a to do list for me (and anyone else who'd like to have a go, i'm certainly welcoming other input).

a)races. not much different to do with humans, elves, dwarves maybe, but i have ideas for changing halflings a bit, amos had "mister foxes" which could be interesting. some other ideas came up in the war. this would be full development, down to balance with racial abilities, languages, ECL? etc.
b)malc, have any interesting ideas for potential prestige classes? i personally would like to develop a non-arcane assassin. i hate the assassin PrC given in the DM's guide, but love potential in assassin stories. also opportunity for region/race-specific PrCs for this setting.
c)more information regarding dieties. interaction, past stories, etc.
d)easy one is to put up the actual descriptions of the background feats.
e)more potential for organizations, there was a war thread even.
f)again malc, and ideas kicking around in your head for monsters? there were a few mentioned in the war, it'd take a bit of sifting to find them though. again, looking for an entirely balanced monster here with stats complete.

as a sort of caveat, if people (not just malc either, if anyone is spontaneously inspired to participate creatively) have ideas for critters, or organizations based in the world, races, PrCs, whatever, shout 'em out. i'm willing to come up with the numbers if i'm given a basic idea.

Its hard enough to get motivated to write something, but with a new edition on the horizen, it would be much worse to write anything with crunch...

I'd be interested in whipping up a couple races, maybe an organization or two, and I'd love to come up with a monster or two as well.

    What about NPCs?

I need a couple days to absorb the material you guys already have and then I can sit down and tinker with a couple ideas I have.

4th edition? Can I use 3E? Those are the only books i have handy.
I wanna be like a goose and fly to new orleans for the winter and to canada for the summer.

Gaidin to Amelia. She is the bomb. And the keeper of satan's nose. Acually, all I have now is her right nostril...
