Tomorrow and tomorrow. Er, tomorrow I have to present my proposal to my committee. It's part of the oral examination. If I pass, I technically become a candidate for a PhD. If not, I might have to join the circus. Or take soulstealer up on her housing offer. Not that I'm comparing the two. heh.

So....I'm teaching a class, a lecture class, for the first time. Starting tomorrow. It's something I want to do, but I'm so bloody nervous I'm about to shatter. Trying not to think about it and failing...heh

It's going to be so weird. What if it turns out I'm the teachers I've so hated along the way. I've had some horribly bad ones in my academic career. I'm going to try to not be one of them, but....

So, I survived the first week of teaching. So far, it has been a lot more fun and a lot more work than I was expecting. It takes too long to put together lectures...

You know you are getting old when you have to see a surgeon about cataract surgery...

I'm getting old...

So yeah, my next hurdle is getting my eyes worked on. The cataract has already progressed far enough to mess with my vision...double vision, blurry, etc. And my consulation with the surgeon isn't until October. I also don't know if my crappy student health insurance will cover any of it.

I go in for my consult with the surgeon in just over 12 hours. Making it tough to sleep...

I have the first of two eye surgeries in a week. ~shudder~

Tomorrow I go in for surgery on my left eye. Two weeks later I'll go in for the right.

I'm trying hard not to think about it too much. I went through LASIK, laser eye surgery, a decade ago. And it was one of the most horrifying experiences I've ever had--mind you, it was worth it, but the procedure itself was so not fun. Sitting there and watching as people touch, cut, or run sponges across your eye. Can't tell them to stop, can't blink. ~shudder~

Hopefully I'll be able to see you tomorrow, gentle reader...

One surgery down, so far so good. The surgery itself was shorter and less scary than my LASIK surgery, but more physically uncomfortable. However, the post op has actually been better than LASIK, my eye has barely hurt at all and I haven't had the dryiness I had with LASIK. Right now, the downside is the constant stream of eye drops I have to put in. Three different meds, three times a day...with at least five minutes between drops. But I can take it.

So far, the weirdest thing has been the change in colors. Everything is a little more vibrant, brighter, and more BLUE. It's really hard to explain how strange that is. Imagine if you can wearing a film of yellowish plastic over your eyes for years, all the time, day and night. Then, suddenly, you get to take the plastic off one eye. Lights are a little whiter, the sky is a little bluer, and your other eye is still seeing the icky colors. Very weird, but just looking at the sky is BREATHTAKING again..at least through one eye it is

Next week, I have another follow up appointment to check my corrected eye and to make final prep to work on the other one. Then, the week after that I go and have the other surgery done. It's scarier. Having just done one, i know exactly what to expect...and it is far from pleasant. Plus, this surgery will be on my dominant good eye. The one I can't afford to have something go wrong with...

But anyway, still alive. Can still see. Thanks for reading, gentle reader.

Tomorrow is the second, and much more important, surgery. They are going to work on my 'good' eye. So far, so good...but, this is the roll of the dice for the big money. heh

I've often wondered how much truth can be gleaned from various fictions, especially if you don't know the truth beforehand. Or does knowing the truth actually fog that particular lens? Hmm...

Still alive. So, yes, still alive. Still poke my head in fairly regularly. Still lament not finding ways to contribute, even if that contribution is absolutely nothing. Still miss a great many things lost to the weave of the past and the web of dreams even if those losses have bore other fruit. Still working on my degree, though the waters of time begin to pour out on that dream faster than I can seem to find science to patch up the seams. heh. Still getting married, of one can believe the ramblings of an old crazy Hermit, and in only three weeks from today.

Still. Calm. Quiet.
