  1. Work that Soil

Garden update time. Last night I took our little pile of leaves and worked that into the top of the garden plots. I also went and bought about 720 pounds (326 kg) of topsoil and spread that over the top of the garden. That sounds like a lot, and I thought it would be a decent amount, but it was surprisingly little topsoil. I wanted to put about a 2 inch layer of topsoil on the garden, but 18 bags of this is all I could really fit in the car, and it didn't come close to being my 2 cubic yards, ...

  2. The Garden Quest

I have officially embarked on a long-awaited quest. Most people know by now that last June, Rebecca and I bought a house near Buffalo, NY. It's a small cape cod, suitable for a first house, and it has what is, to my mind, a small yard. I didn't grow up in the country, just a small town, but my parents have what I now realize is a moderately large yard, on average, with the added bonus of being bordered on the back by a small wood. 3. Hole in the Wall

I'm proud of myself today. Mostly because last night I cut a hole in the wall of my living room. In the new house, it's been the single thing i've done that could have gone the most wrong. I was putting in a new programmable thermostat, and taking out the cheap piece of crap that was installed here before we moved in. Of course, the one i took out was just hung on the wall, and the new one is recessed into the wall. Piece of cake, right? Just cut a hole in the drywall, hook up the wires, and ...

  4. Vacation...

So, we (wife and I) are going on vacation starting Tuesday this week. First it's a fly down to North Carolina and the outer banks. Her parents rent a house there for 2 weeks every summer, and we're always welcome to go if we can make it because the place is large enough, so we're going for a bit this year. They even helped pay for the air fare, hooray.
Friday we fly back here and meet up with my parents and a couple of their friends who are driving out and going on their vacation. ...

  5. Being a Bad Friend

So, I'm being a horribly lazy bad friend at the moment. There are people who i care about a lot, and love to be friends with who i am neglecting badly. they are, in general, pretty far away geographically, but i should be emailing or something. and i could be, like, right now, instead of writing this i could be rectifiying the situation. instead i am writing about how badly i am neglecting them. i don't know why i don't want to write them, or call them or something. i just don't have the energy ...
