    This is our home, and we'd like it to be yours as well. A lot of time, energy, and heart have gone into making this place. In fact, archaeological evidence, our calendar, tells us February 8, 2003 is our birthday. Wow!

    Hopefully you'll find its someplace you want to hang your hat and stay a while. Fantasy abounds here and is the key. Some of our earliest community members have their roots in Wotism, and certainly, the Wheel of Time never left our home. But we still have a touch on reality as well.

    So, come in and chat with the locals, be it about the new hot book on the market or the new blockbuster at the corner Cineplex. Or just come in and meet our people. That's what truly makes this humble place a home. We have an incredible cast of characters in our family, so won't you cast your lot with us?

    For starters, let me just say Schønefeld is a very simple and I'm guessing young airport, because it's facilities are really not top notch and it's a petty damn long walk away from connecting infrastructure. That being said, for us, young people, travelling in the summer, the walk was not such a problem, but when it's cold or if you're not that into walking, you are pretty much forced into grabbing a cab -which is quite expensive in Germany.

    That being said, once you're aboard the train you're on a part of a great interconnected web of transportation. Trains, trams, subways and buses, Berlin has a lot of them all. Figuring them out is another matter, but overall it's a decent system. This too, is pretty expensive, which is pretty well illustrated by the fact that in the course of the weekend I was accosted by a total of five beggars -three of which where asking for tickets with hours left on them rather than money. Figuring the transportation system is paramount -Berlin is a huge city spread out wide, and even though we walked our shoes off most days, we'd have no chance to see all that we wanted to see without the weekend transportation pass.

    Gadgetry and Distractions?

    Once upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,
    Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
    While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
    As of someone gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
    “Tis some visitor”, I muttered, “tapping at my chamber door-
    Only this, and nothing more.”
    These words are what start off Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous work. Published well over a century ago (1845 for those that care to know), I remember reading this poem for the first time when I was a teenager. I found the text disjointed and foreign. Hell, I’ll even go as far as to admit that I only paid minor interest in this poem due to a Simpson’s episode. Am I an uncouth heathen? Perhaps, but that’s another article.

    A quirk of literature in general is that it is open to interpretation. And despite what an author may have originally intended, a poem can have a completely different inference and can even draw new meaning. A song can mean something completely different after that first kiss behind the bleachers. And so here we are, 165 years later and rapping at my chamber door has new context.

    In this day and age, everyone is plugged in to some degree or another. We can text, tweet, blog, forum post, instant message, digg, and that’s only mentioning what I did this afternoon. The list is practically endless. Is it a bad thing? Absolutely not, it brings us more options to communicate.
